Major International Airports in India
1. Indira Gandhi International Airport :-
Today it is the largest airport in India. Earlier it was operated by the Indian Air Force. It is located in West Delhi.
→ It served as an Indian Air Force base during World War II.
→ It was named as Indira Gandhi International Airport on 2 May 1986.
→ Owned by the Airports Authority of India, it is controlled by the Delhi International Airport Authority since May 2006.
→ Initially it was called Palam Airport.
→ It is the airport with the most passengers & the most air traffic in South Asia.
2. Rajsansi Gandhi International Airport :-
It is located in Amritsar, Punjab. This airport is known as Gururam Das International Airport, Koda. Guru Ram Das, the 4th Guru of Sikhism, was the founder of Amritsar.
→ It is managed by Airports Authority of India.
→ It is a public international airport.
→ Rajasansi International Airport was modernized and inaugurated on 25 February 2009.
→ Amritsar has Golden Temple which is a tourist attraction. It is connected to Tashkent, Tehran, London, Muscat.
→ Air India, Air India Express, India Air Line, Jet flights operate from this airport.
3. Goa International Airport :-
Found at Dabolim near Vasco, Goa. It was earlier known as Dabolim Airport. Goa is a tourist attraction. It is operated by the Indian Navy and the Civil Aviation Authority of India. This airport has connections to Sharjah, Moscow, London, Doha, Stockholm. This airport has regular flight connections to Karachi, Taimar. This is an air force airport, the military aircraft I. N. S Hansa is used for civil service.
4. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport :-
It is found in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It provides 3 types of services.
1) Freight service
2) Civil Service
3) Serves as an international airport.
→ is the 8th busiest airport in India. It is known as Ahmedabad Airport. The airport was later named after the first Deputy Prime Minister of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
→ Indian Air Line, Jet Air Line Kingfisher, Space Jet flights operate from this airport. This airport is also managed by the Civil Aviation Authority of India. An average of 150 flights depart from this station every day. It is one of the major international airports in India.
5. Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport :-
It is located in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It is called Mumbai Airport. The airport is the 2nd busiest airport in the country. It is the second busiest airport after Delhi. ..Initially it was called Sahara International Airport and Santa Cruz National Airport.
→ In February 2006, the airport was named after the 17th century Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji by combining these two stations.
→This station has won many awards. Awarded Best Airport in India and Central Asia (2016). It is managed by the Mumbai International Airport Corporation.
6. Cochin International Airport :-
This station in Cochin, Kerala is known as Nedumbasari Airport. Operated by Cochin International Airport Corporation
→This airport connects to Muscat, Kuwait, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Singapore. Also it is connected to many domestic states.
→This station has the distinction of being the first airport in the country to function entirely on solar power.

→ It is India's first international airport managed by a public limited company Hodike. It is one of the major international airports in India.
7. Kempegowda International Airport :-
It is located in Devanahalli near Bangalore in the state of Karnataka. H. who started in Bangalore. A. L International Airport was replaced by Bangalore International Airport.
→ Construction started in July 2005 and completed on 23 May 2008 and commissioned for passenger service.
→is the 4th busiest airport in India.
→It is managed by Bangalore International Airport Authority. For this, on February 27, 2009, the Government of Karnataka submitted a request to the Central Government to name this airport as Kempegowda International Airport. The proposal was named Kempegowda International Airport on 14
→This station connects to Dubai, Parish, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and other parts of the world.
8. Kolkata International Airport :-
It is located in Kolkata, West Bengal. It was earlier called Dandam Airport because it was located at Dandam near Kolkata. It is the largest international airport in the East. It is a major hub for flights from Bangladesh and Northeast India and is also managed by the Airports Authority of India. Flights from here are connected to Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Dhaka, Singapore, Dubai.
9. Thiruvananthapuram International Airport :-
It is located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It is called Trivandrum International Airport. It was established in 1932. The station has seaplane connections to Kuwait, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Muscat, Singapore, Male, Bahrain, Doha, Abu Dhabi.
→ It was made an international airport on 1st January 1991.
→is the first airport in Kerala.
→This airport is managed by the Kerala Airport Authority.
10. Chennai International Airport :-
It is located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This airport is known as "Meenabakum Airport" and is the 3rd busiest international airport in India. It is the 2nd largest airport handling cargo traffic. Flights here are connected to Singapore, Colombo, Doha, Muscat, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, London, Hong Kong.
